Dr. Steven Brown
Assistant Professor of Management

Steven Brown, assistant professor of management, received his doctorate from Auburn University. He holds an MBA from CSU, as well as a master’s in human resources from Auburn.

Dr. Ginsung Moon
Assistant Professor of Finance

Ginsung Moon, assistant professor of finance, received his doctorate in finance and MBA from the University of Missouri and previously taught at St. Louis University and Berry College.

Dr. Mohamed R. Chouchane
Assistant Professor of Computer Science

Mohamed R. Chouchane, assistant professor of computer science, holds a doctorate from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, a master’s in applied computer science from CSU and a bachelor’s in mathematics from the Faculty of Tunis. He arrived last year on temporary assignment and has published research on computer security and supervised research of both undergraduate and graduate students. In spring 2009, he received a CSU Outstanding Teacher of Writing Award and was appointed Associate Director of CSU’s Center for Information Assurance Education.

Dr. Jianhua Yang
Associate Professor of Computer Science

Jianhua Yang, associate professor of computer science, he previously taught at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Bennett College for Women (N.C.) and the Beijing Institute of Petro-Chemical Technology. Specializing in network and information security, he has published more than 20 research papers.

Dr. Evelyn Blalock
Assistant Professor of Special Education

Evelyn Blalock, assistant professor of special education, joined CSU last year on temporary assignment. She holds a doctorate in special education from the University of New Mexico and has published a manual for strategies for teaching learners with special needs.

Dr. Richard Gardiner
Assistant Professor of History Education

Richard Gardiner, assistant professor of history education, arrives with a history doctorate from Marquette University and nine years of teaching high school history in Wisconsin. He also holds a master’s degree in divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Dr. Spencer Garrad
Assistant Professor of Middle Grades Education

Spencer Garrard, assistant professor of middle grades education, has served as part-time instructor at CSU since 1993. He holds a doctorate in child and youth studies from Nova Southeastern University and has 12 years of middle grades teaching experience.

Dr. Elizabeth Hipps
Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education

Elizabeth Hipps, assistant professor of early childhood education, joined CSU in 2007 on temporary assignment, teaching classes in educational research, educational psychology and early childhood education. Her education includes master’s and specialist degrees in music education from the University of Georgia, and a doctorate in educational leadership from Auburn University.

Dr. Burhanettin Keskin
Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education

Burhanettin Keskin, assistant professor of early childhood education, arrives from Ataturk University in Turkey. With a doctorate from Florida State University, his research interests are in theory of mind and child development.

Ms. Sandy Little
Instructor of Early Childhood Education

Sandy Little, instructor of early childhood education, served CSU as a temporary instructor last year. She previously worked as a kindergarten and second-grade teacher, and instructional technology coach for Auburn City Schools, and is pursing a doctorate in Early Childhood Education at Auburn.

Dr. Melissa Sullivan
Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education

Melissa Sullivan, assistant professor of early childhood education, arrived last year on temporary assignment. Previously, she taught at Auburn University of Montgomery, where she received the Robert A. Wieseman Excellence in Teaching Award. She has a doctorate from Auburn and 11 years of experience as an elementary teacher and special education resource teacher.

Dr. Gary Shouppe
Associate Professor of Educational Leadership

Gary Shouppe, associate professor of educational leadership, became a temporary full-time faculty member for CSU last year after teaching part-time since 2006. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Valdosta State and has served as principal at Brewer Elementary, Dimon Elementary, Blackmon Road Middle School and, most recently, Veterans Memorial Middle School.

Mr. Gary Wortley
Interim Dean

Gary Wortley, interim dean, studied music at Boston University, The University of Texas at Austin, North Texas State University and the Academie Internationale d'Ete in Nice, France, and holds bachelors and masters degrees in music education and flute performance.

Mr. Joe Sanders
Allan F. Rothschild Endowed Chair of the Art Department

Joe Sanders, the Allan F. Rothschild Endowed Chair of the art department, arrives from Florida State University, where he led the FSU art department. He has exhibited extensively and is represented in prestigious collections such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Biblioteque Nationale in Paris and the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution.

Mr. Yuichiro Komatsu
Assistant Professor of Ceramics

Yuichiro Komatsu, assistant professor of ceramics, earned his master’s degree from Alfred University (N.Y.), and completed a postgraduate research fellowship in Germany. He has served in faculty positions at Queens College (N.Y.), Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver and Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary.

Mr. Rylan Steele
Assistant Professor of Photography

Rylan Steele, assistant professor of photography, has a master’s degree from the University of Georgia, and has occupied residencies at the Atlantic Center for the Arts (Fla.)and the Hungarian Multicultural Center in Budapest. He arrives from the University of North Carolina-Asheville faculty.

Mr. Matthew McCabe
Audio technology Specialist

Matthew McCabe joins the Schwob school faculty as an audio technology specialist and University of Florida doctoral candidate in music composition. Trained as a composer and focused on electroacoustic music and music technology, he served as the technical director for both the Florida and Third Practice Electroacoustic Music Festivals, and serves on the board of the Society of Composers, Inc. He has studied cognitive neuroscience and music psychology at the University of Florida's Cognition and Language Lab and has presented research at numerous conferences.

Dr. Robert Murray
Associate Professor of Trumpet

Robert Murray, associate professor of trumpet, holds a doctorate from the University of North Texas and has performed with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the Denver Brass, the Portland Opera Orchestra, Opera Colorado, the Oregon Symphony, and Orquesta Sinfonica de Mineria in Mexico City. He performs with his wife, Lauren Murray, as the duo Harmonie del Sur.

Dr. Elizabeth Parker
Assistant Professor of General-Choral Music Education

Elizabeth Parker, assistant professor of general-choral music education, holds a doctorate in educational studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has sang with Robert Shaw and James Conlon at Carnegie Hall, and performed as a regular professional chorister with the Marble Collegiate Sanctuary Choir of New York City. She also has served as music director for the Children’s Aid Society.

Dr. Alex Pershounin
Director of Jazz Studies and Professor of Bass

Alex Pershounin, director of jazz studies and professor of bass, has performed extensively throughout Europe and United States and been featured as a performer and composer on such internationally recognized music events as Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and and New Orleans Jazz Fest. He has performed with Itzhac Perlman, Yo Yo Ma, Ray Charles and others. He holds a doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi and previously taught there and at Minnesota State University, Westfield State College (Mass.) and various music institutions in Russia.

Ms. Susan Hatch Tomkiewicz
Assistant Professor of Oboe

Susan Hatch Tomkiewicz, assistant professor of oboe, has performed with ensembles including the Omaha Symphony, the Austin Symphony, the Maine Chamber Ensemble and the Bangor Symphony, A proponent of new music, she has commissioned and premiered solo, electronic and chamber works by such composers as Brooke Joyce, Bruce Pennycook, Jeremy Baguyos and Nancy Galbraith.

Mr. Scott C. Parker
Theatre Lecturer and Technical Director

Scott C. Parker, theatre lecturer and technical director, has worked in New York as a lighting-scenic designer, equity stage manager and technical director since 1981. He has chaired the New York Area Section of the United States Institute of Theater Technology and taught design and technical production at Pace University (N.Y.) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Angela Green, assistant professor of English, is a doctoral candidate specializing in rhetoric and composition, and American literature, at the University of Georgia. She completed undergraduate studies at the University of Texas.

Assistant Professor of English and Writing Center Director

Eliot Rendleman, assistant professor of English and Writing Center director, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his master’s and doctorate from the University of Nevada. He arrives from the University of California-Davis faculty.

Temporary Assistant Professor and Director of Firsty-Year Composition

Noah Roderick, temporary assistant professor and director of First-Year Composition, He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Illinois University and his doctorate from Illinois State University with the dissertation, “Gods, Grammars, and Genres: Towards an Ethics of English Studies in the Age of Imperial Sovereignty.”

Dr. Tyler Fleming
Assistant Professor of History

Tyler Fleming, assistant professor of history, recently completed his doctorate from the University of Texas. His research focuses on popular culture, specifically jazz music and theatre in South Africa during the 1950s and 1960s. He spent 2005-2006 in Johannesburg on a Fulbright fellowship conducting research for his dissertation.

Assistant Professor of History

Daniel Gullo, assistant professor of history, specializes in medieval European history He received his master’s degree from the University of Toronto, and his doctorate from the University of Chicago.

Mario Kessler, European historian and the 2009-2010 Mildred Miller Fort Foundation Visiting Scholar, holds a master’s and doctorate from the University of Leipzig in Germany.

Gregory Domin, associate professor of political science and department chair, arrives from the Mercer University faculty with interests ranging from politics, campaigns and elections, and Congress, to environmental theory and justice. A native of Jersey City, N.J., he holds a doctorate from Northern Arizona University.

Temporary Assistant Professor of Political Science

Kimberly Gill, temporary assistant professor of political science, is a certified mediator for the state of Georgia and holds a doctorate in Public Administration and Public Policy from Auburn University, where she served as associate director of the Women’s Leadership Institute.

Dr. Zdeslav Hrepic
Assistant Professor of Physics

Zdeslav Hrepic, assistant professor of physics, joins the Department of Earth and Space Sciences. A native of Croatia, he holds a master’s degree in physics and doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Kansas State University. He arrives from Fort Hays State (Kansas), where he utilized tablet PCs and interactive software in his teaching.

Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education
Gunhan Caglayan, assistant professor of mathematics education, arrives from the faculty of the University of Georgia, where he completed his doctorate. He also holds a master’s in mathematical physics from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, in his native Turkey.

Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Ben Kamau, assistant professor of mathematics, arrives from Delaware State University where he taught and completed his doctorate in applied mathematics. A native of Kenya, his research interests include geometric modeling, computational mathematics and image processing.
